STRATEGY - Deep Dive #2

Updated: Aug 11, 2018

By: Brian Gilleece

Let's continue our DEEP DIVE on some topics around being Strategic or using strategery.

2.) AVOID WINGING IT - You have heard this before, "By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail."

Do you remember my analogy last week about NASA and about how being "over prepared" is BS.... and a cop out... etc... and not real... and something people who are scared say...?

OK cool...Well here it is again!

.................................................................................... Int: NASA headquarters (Day) Chad and Trent, two of NASA's top rocket scientists discuss the launching of their most expensive and dangerous missile yet. MATCH CUT, To Chads burrito wrapper.

Trent - "Hey Chad, bro, you think we should check out the launch codes for the rocket again just to make sure were hella 100% on them?

Chad - "Nahhhhhh. bruh, we already checked em, fully bro, I don't want to be over prepared you know."

.....................................................................................

No, I don't know why only OC bro's work at NASA now, I guess budget stuff... BUT the point is, it sounds stupid right? But it sounds JUST AS STUPID in any other context... Your preparation for any business situation (yup again with me calling this a business) should be done ad nauseam. There is more to then then the dam lines, so lets check what that looks like!

CREATE A CLEAR VISON FOR WHAT YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE: -Not just booking! Create specific measurable goals for your self in any situation. If you walk into an audition room perhaps your goal is to "learn one new thing about casting" or maybe you have looked up the CD and found some commonality and your goal is to "share your common ground with that CD". Maybe you are at an event and you want to make sure you tell a producer how much you enjoy their work and give them your card. You will be able to measure this and know if you succeed or not and you need to hold YOURSELF accountable.

ACT AS IF YOU ALREADY HAVE SUCCESS: -If you haven't seen this from Boiler Room, I have done you the liberty of adding the link below, BUT it is 100% true. You can’t wait until you’re successful and until you have a large audience to start doing your very best. Instead, you become successful in order to gain access to larger prospects by producing top quality work even when you’re unknown... I'm not sure why people have an attitude anything but this, if the project is so Tiny and your so great, shouldn't it be EASY to book? And if you booked every EASY project wouldn't you have a HUGE IMDb and hypothetically wouldn't you be more attractive to larger projects.

Treat It all the dam same and before you know it you will be at a different level and have a few extra bucks in your pocket.

HuffPost Article: Laws of Attraction

HAVE SOMETHING AT STAKE: Most people are great at coming up with all sorts of excuses for not doing what needs to be done. They tell themselves things like the following:

“I’ll take this project seriously when I have more time.” “I’ll wait until I feel more inspired.” “I’ll can take it slow; there’s no rush.” “There’s always next week (month, year, decade).”

As a result of this line of thinking, they never put enough effort into whatever it is that they’re trying to achieve, so they don’t get very far in achieving their goals.

The way to light a fire is to have something at stake—self-esteem, money, reputation, and so on. To prepare yourself to succeed, raise the ante......What are you here to do? WHAT IS IT?

SOME SMALL LITTLE THINGS YOU CAN DO: -Constantly plant seeds for your future success. -Always seek to create value. -Know that what you focus on expands. Stop focusing on your set-backs. -Make sure to be well-groomed and well-dressed. -Invest in yourself: read good books, attend seminars, and learn all you can. -Take care of your body: exercise, eat well, and get enough sleep. -Surround yourself with people who are more successful than you are. -Release fear of failure. -Each day do the best you can with what you have. -Be gracious to everyone you meet. -Be as happy for the success of others as you are of your own. -Honor your worth. -Take responsibility for yourself. -Demonstrate ease: stop complaining, stop making excuses, don’t overreact to problems, don’t promise more than you can deliver, and don’t take on more than you can do. -Know what is unacceptable to you and communicate boundaries. -Give yourself permission to be and do what you want. Follow your inner guidance. -Expect success.

CONCLUSION: When success knocks on your door, will you be ready? Or will your lack of readiness and squander or just plain fail to recognize it because of lack of involvement in your own life... Be involved in your life... Drive your success and hold your self accountable...
